Tasked with improving the thermal efficiency, reducing condensation, and minimising road noise for a stunning Grade II listed Arts and Crafts home, GBS worked closely with the homeowners to design and install a tailored secondary glazing solution.
Tailored Solutions for a Historic Home
Preserving the architectural integrity of a listed property requires precision and expertise, and GBS Joinery was committed to maintaining the aesthetic and historical significance of the home. To meet the homeowners’ needs while adhering to conservation guidelines, the original single-glazed casement windows remained untouched. Instead, GBS designed and installed bespoke secondary glazing that seamlessly blends with the home’s Georgian-style aesthetic.
Acoustic Comfort and Energy Efficiency
One of the key challenges of the project was mitigating road noise without compromising the property’s visual appeal. To achieve this, GBS incorporated acoustic glass within double-glazed units, significantly reducing external noise pollution while enhancing thermal efficiency. The warm wood stain chosen for the new units ensured they complemented the existing window frames, preserving the character of the home.
Seamless Integration and Practicality
Beyond aesthetics and performance, functionality was a crucial aspect of the design. The bespoke secondary glazing was carefully crafted to provide easy access for cleaning the original stone mullions and historic window frames—an essential consideration for the homeowners. This thoughtful approach ensured that the new installation offered both practicality and preservation in equal measure.
Delighted Homeowners and Future Plans
The homeowners were thrilled with the transformation, noting the immediate improvements in warmth, noise reduction, and overall comfort. Inspired by the success of the installation, they now plan to extend the secondary glazing solution throughout the property, further enhancing the home’s energy efficiency and functionality.
